T he New Orleans Women’s Shelter began operations after Hurricane Katrina in response to the massive loss of housing.
NOWS enables homeless women and mothers with young children to escape homelessness to a resource rich, safe, home-style environment. We then provide case management and support services, counseling, life skills, employment training and education enrollment in order to assist women and families transition to independent, sustainable living.

Ending Homelessness for Women and Children
 According to 2009 estimates, there are 7,385 unsheltered homeless families living in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish.
 75% of NOWS clients have children under the age of 9.
 We have provided assistance to over 415 women and children in the last four years.
